U.S. Rep. Steven C. LaTourette (R-Bainbridge Township) today announced that several fire departments in his district will receive Assistance to Firefighters Grants for fire prevention and safety programs.
The following departments will receive grants:
• Middlefield Fire Department -- $73,055 • Kirtland Fire Department -- $10,450 • Hiram Fire Department -- $11,400 • Cuyahoga Falls Fire Department -- $50,400 (Note: Cuyahoga Falls is represented by LaTourette and U.S. Rep. Betty Sutton)
“I know many of our departments are cash-strapped and this federal assistance is helpful,” LaTourette said. “This grant program is enormously popular with fire departments, and I’m glad that so many departments in my district were selected for funding.”
The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program is administered by the U.S. Fire Administration (UFA) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Office for Domestic Preparedness. It assists rural, urban and suburban fire departments across the country. Volunteer, paid and combination departments can seek funding. There is generally a local match for each grant, and that can depend on the size of the department and the community’s population.
For additional information about how the funding will be used, please contact the individual departments.
